Its all about the dogs!
But here is a little bit about the trainers:
The Wilson dog trainers are 3rd generation in the entertainment business.Joanne Wilson and sister Trudy Strong have been training animals for 30+ years.Trudys first love was a Dalmatian named "Corky".Trudy taught Corky to do every trick in the book and Corky loved all the attention.Corky was a faithful companion.Trudy later trained 10 Dalmatians to do a very unique dog show with a leopard spotted appaloosa pony assisting them.Joannes first training experience was 2 poodles belonging to her aunt, while she was a teen in school. She also, trained them to do many behaviors. The first dog show she trained was 6 white Spitz and a white pony.

Both trainers use the reward system for training and all the dogs love getting the treats. After years of traveling and showing their little charges the girls decided to go home for some much needed rest. During the time spent at home they started seeing lost or thrown away dogs on the back road. They always stopped to get the dog and try to find the owner. Sometimes they were succesful in finding the owner, but most of the time, they were dogs thrown away. And so they kept them at home until they were vet checked, shots and spayed or neutered. Many times they found homes for the strays. There were so many dogs and it was getting expensive!!

| Thats when the idea for the "Wonder Dogs" began. The dogs could perform and help pay some of the expenses. All of the dogs auditioned and luckly all of the dogs agreed to participate. And so "Wonder Dogs of America".They still take in lost or homeless dogs. Some learn to perform and some get loving new homes and some are just hanging around for all the attention and treats.Any dog that can no longer perform is taken out of the show but remains with the Wilson sisters until they have to go. |
